Understand the record you are submitting
Colombia’s Registro Civil de Nacimiento records a person’s birth and civil identity. Your copy may contain registration details, parents’ information, a serial number, a NUIP and later annotations. These details belong to the document and should remain visible in the file you upload.
LangCertix translates Colombian birth records from Spanish into English only. We preserve the connection between headings and entries through mirror formatting, so you can compare the English document with your Spanish copy.
Prepare a complete, readable copy
Upload a clear PDF or photographs of every relevant page and both sides. Keep the edges visible and include any separate sheet containing amendments or annotations. Place the document flat and avoid shadows or glare over handwriting and stamps.
Before ordering, check the document instructions for your specific application. The format accepted for one immigration procedure may differ from another. A translation does not establish that the underlying birth record is the correct version for your case.
What we translate
- Names: the registered person’s name and the parents’ names as written in the source.
- Dates and places: birth and registration dates, municipality, department and country where shown.
- Registration information: serial numbers, NUIP and office details that appear on the copy.
- Additional text: stamps, handwritten entries, corrections and marginal notes forming part of the record.
If the source contains an error, contact the issuing authority about correcting it. Translation reflects the source document; it should not silently alter a name or date to match another record.
Two parts of your delivery
You receive the English translation and the translator’s signed certification in PDF. The certification states that the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate from Spanish into English.
Mirror formatting makes corresponding fields easier to locate. It is a presentation feature, while the signed certification is a separate statement. Keep both with your Spanish birth record and follow your application’s filing instructions.
Review before you file
Compare names, dates, identification numbers and annotations against your original when you receive the translation. Keep the complete delivery together so the translation and its certification are easy to find.
For the official translation rule, see 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). For country-specific document background, consult the Department of State’s Colombia civil documents guide; consular guidance does not replace the instructions for your USCIS application.
